Catalogue Note

It has been suggested by Graham Reynolds on the basis of a photograph, that stylistically and in subject matter this drawing relates to those made during the artist's voyage on the Coutts in 1803, (see G. Reynolds, The Early Paintings and Drawings of John Constable, 1966, pl.167, 207-209). We are also grateful to Peter Bower for confirming that the paper is consistent with those used by Constable.
