  • Pair of reliefs of the Hercules and Flora Farnese

Condition

Overall the condition of the ivories is very good. There is some minor wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. Each has a hole for mounting at the top that has been plugged.

Catalogue Note

Andrea Pozzi (1759-1788) worked for King Carlos III of Spain and the King of Naples and Sicily. A signed pair of rectangular reliefs with the same figures was exhibited in Rome in 1995 (op.cit.) and later sold at Sotheby's Paris on 29 March 2007, lot 34. Another example of the Flora is in the Reiner Winkler collection (op.cit.).
