Catalogue Note

It is likely that Carrier-Belleuse produced this roundel while working in England for Minton in the 1850's. Basil Holmes was a nineteenth century British painter famous for his landscape scenes. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1844-1850 and occasionally painted figurative subjects.
