Description

  • ceramic
of rounded form with everted rim on a short foot with no true footring, decorated in coloured slips with a striking repeat design of overlapping and interlinked alifs with cross-hatched foliate terminals on a chrome yellow ground splashed with copper green

Catalogue Note

The sparseness, symmetry and formality of the design is in striking contrast to the horror vacui of the "buff wares" which in other ways are quite similar in palette and technique, see, for example, Watson 2004, p.251, Cat. H.3
