Illuminated Arabic manuscript on paper, 372 leaves, 12 lines per page written in fine naskhi script in black ink, interlinear Persian translation in red ink in nasta`liq script, interlinear rules in gold, gold florets between verses, sura headings written in gold thuluth script on illuminated panels, margins ruled in gold and blue, further text divisions marked in margins with illuminated devices, marginal notations in black nasta`liq script within gold cartouches adjacent to sura headings, three opening double-page frontispieces illuminated in colours and gold, contemporary floral lacquer binding

Condition

In very good overall condition, minor nibbles to some pages, otherwise lacquer in excellent state of repair, pages clean and fresh, ink strong and bold, colours and gold bright, as viewed

This fine and large Qur'an was commissioned by a certain General (Sartip) Abd al-Rashid Khan.

Other works by Abd al-Wahhab are recorded, including a similar Qur'an dated 1269 (1852-3), in the National Library, Tehran. Abd al-Wahhab's pen-name was Naghmah. For references see Bayani 1358, pp.99-100.
