cylindrical, engraved with arms circa 1708 within a baroque cartouche flanked by ribbon-tied husks and fruit, the lower body applied with a molded girdle, the peaked flat-domed cover with lion couchant thumbpiece, faceted double-scroll handle

Catalogue Note
The arms are those of Borrow impaling Burton for Isaac Borrow Esq. of Hulland, co. Derby, and his second wife, Honora, only daughter of Thomas Burton Esq. and sole heiress of her brother Robert Burton of the elder branch of Burtons, descended from Jacobus de Burton. They were married in 1708 and he was Mayor of Derby in 1730 and 1742. His grandson recorded in the College of Arms the change in spelling of the name from Borrow to Borough, circa 1800.
