oval, the cast rim with flowers and foliage, the sides pierced with panels of lattice spaced by scrolling foliage, the swing handle pierced with diaper and springing from chinoiserie caryatids, the center engraved with contemporary arms and supporters beneath an earl's coronet, raised on an oval foot pierced with scallops within rope-twist borders

Provenance

The arms are those of MacDonnell for either Alexander, 5th Earl of Antrim (1713-1775), P.C. Governor of co. Antrim, or his son the 6th Earl (1749-91), Sheriff of co. Antrim in 1775, K.B. 5 May 1779, created in 1789 Marquess of Antrim; the latter died without male issue.
