of partially gadrooned bombe oval form, the applied gadroon rim with double-shells flanked by acanthus and leaf-tips at angles, engraved on one side with later crest and motto, raised on scroll supports headed by acanthus, the stepped domed cover chased with gadrooned band and applied with matching shell decoration, the reeded loop finial centered by radiating acanthus, removable plated liner

The crest and motto are those used by diamond millionaire Solomon Barnato Joel; see note to lot 232.

Condition

as noted re later crest, interior with some salt stains, two old repaired splits to cover near where engraving probably removed but not thin, overall good condition
