Description

  • height overall 7 ft. 5 in.; height of painting 6 ft. 2 3/4 in.; width of each scroll 19 in.
  • 226.1 cm; 189.9 cm; 48.3 cm
ink and colour on silk, each mounted as a hanging scroll, together forming a large painting depicting a courtly mansion set in a garden and landscape setting, with figures engaged in leisurely pursuits and a central scene of a couple receiving guests in a large courtyard.  The far left scroll with Chinese characters to the upper left corner.  The characters translate to 'Painted during the tenth lunar month of the jiazi-year of the Kangxi reign'.

Condition

Overall very good condition; not viewed under a 'black light'. Re-lined; some losses to the painted surface, mainly to the Royal blue pigment as found on a number of robes and hats of figures; very well painted; please note that ten of the twelve scrolls are 19 inches wide and two panels are each 14 inches wide. The approximate overall length is 18 feet.
