A fine set of twelve George III mahogany dining chairs
circa 1760
comprising two armchairs and ten side chairs.  The back rail of each with a stenciled Roman numeral, and stamped with a Roman numeral.  Each side chair stamped MM to the exterior of the back seat rail.  Molded edges to tops of seat rails later.

A chair with a related backrest from a set at Nostell Priory possibly by Thomas Chippendale is illustrated, C. Gilbert, The Life and Work of Thomas Chippendale, 1978, vol. II, p. 83, fig. 131. A manuscript drawing by Chippendale with a similar backrest is now in the collection of The Chippendale Society.
