  • A Rare Figural Lamp Screen

    with original bronze chain

Provenance

Dora Whitman Fluekinger

Condition

There are approximately 11 pieces of glass with cracks in the right wing and approximately 3 pieces of pieces of glass with cracks in the left wing. The bottom terminals of each wing appear to have been bent inward and as a result there are few areas where the leading has become fractured with associated separations and fracturing to the adjacent glass tiles. One glass tile to the lower left terminal of the wing is fractured and presently lifting in the upper right corner. The lamp screen would benefit from sensitive conservation to stabilize the leading and glass. The glass shows more variation than in the catalogue illustration and the various tones of yellows are more pronounced in person. The patina on the central figure and leading is exceptional, displaying rich tonalities of russet brown and green with surface soiling to recessed contours of the figure, and around the lead lines on the reverse side of the screen. With the original bronze suspension chain which is not shown in the catalogue illustration. With proper restoration, this rare lamp screen will prove to be an exceptional example with a particularly artistic glass selection and an exceptionally rich patina.
