Acquired directly from the artist in the late 1940s by Ira Genstein, Philadelphia, PA., and thence by descent to Peter Rudolph, Haverford, PA.

Original canvas. There are a few small areas of craquelure, including to the water,a small line to the hill lower left, to a few places in the upper left quadrant, and to places along the very outer top and left edge, where the work is pulled over the stretcher. There is a small area of paint seperation in the lower right corner, and there are some very light stretcher bar marks across the centre. The surface is slightly dirty but otherwise the work is in generally good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals flecks of retouching to the upper corners and to the lower edge, a small area of retouching and a few small flecks to and around the water, two small spots above the signature and a few tiny scattered flecks to the hills and street on the left.
