Catalogue Note
The originality of Jan Altinks works can be found at large by his representations of the Groninger landscape between 1922 and 1927. With vivid and blazing colours of the French Impressionists "Altink has given general validity to the idea of a Groningen landscape. It is his original creativity that, to this end, he made use of the techniques of the expressionists.
The unmixed colours and the shadowless planes are the instruments with which the inhospitable, harsh commonnes of the forlorn vast inimical polders with their slumbering vital impulses were presented."
