surmounted by a white veined Cararra marble top.  The lock plate stamped DUVIVIER / PARIS within an oval with the stencil mark MADE IN FRANCE to underside of carcass.

The marble with the usual scratches to surface and minor nicks and chips to edges and showing a minor repair to the edge near front right corner; the toupie feet lacking gilt-bronze collars, lacking a shelf; the bronze mounts have been cleaned and possibly re-gilded at some stage; the mahogany veneers with the usual minor scratches, bruises and chips consistent with age and use.

The present commode is based on the model executed by the eighteenth century ébéniste Guillaume Benneman (reçu maître1785), which was adapted from a model by Joseph Stöckel (reçu maître1775) and supplied to Queen Marie Antoinette in 1786 for the Salon des jeux at Fontainebleau.
