A Louis XVI style gilt-bronze mounted mahogany and fruitwood trellis marquetry commode in the manner of Jean-françois Leleu Paris, circa 1880

surmounted by a Brèche Violette marble top.

Overall good condition; the top appears to have some old repaired breaks to the back corners and with some small chips and nicks to the edges; the gilt-bronze dirty and retaining original gilding with some light rubbing and wear overall and with dirt and dust to crevices; some horizontal age cracks to harewood frieze behind the gilt-bronze mounts; veneers in good condition and with a French-polish; some nicks scratches and bruises to the legs; the doors locked and without a key; the gilt-bronze moulding surrounding the marble top has been bent to its front side now inhibiting the marble top to lay flush with the carcass--this issue can be resolved by professional restoration.

The present commode is based on the 18th century pair of commodes made by Jean-François Leleu (1729-1807) for the bedchamber of the Duchesse de Bourbon in Paris, and delivered on May 1, 1773.
