the cover centered by a blue and white maenad surrounded by translucent blue enamel on rayed ground, the interior fitted with hinged watch, rectangular ink container, desk seal, and silver-gilt pen and pencil holders

some ruibbing to gilding, watch movement rusted and winder detached, one compartment empty, possibly for sealing wax
