The swiveling mirror with its nicely cast and chased mounts and retaining original gilding, but dirty and tarnished; minor chips to edges of frame with usual minor scratches consistent with age; extensive lifting to bronze bandings to edges throughout the cabinet which need to be tightened; the quarter-veneered top showing scratches, bruising and stains; vertical age cracks to right side of left drawer due to shrinkage; the gilt-bronze mounts wit new nail hardware and with some original old screws; gilt-bronze bandings of lower part and chutes possibly re-gilded.

Although apparently unsigned, the present model bears strong similarities in design to another Zwiener dressing table which is part of an important and rare suite de chambre à coucher, circa 1889, sold in these rooms, October 26, 2006, lot 138.  It is interesting to note the gilt-bronze mount centering the top of the swiveling mirror plate is of exact design to the dressing table referenced above and integrating the distinctive Léon Messagé signature cast 'wing'.
