  • height 14 1/2 in.; width 8 in.
  • 36.9 cm; 20.3 cm
surmounted by a finial of the figure of Vincingetorix, the cup carved in the round with a scene of the battle of Alesia.

Condition

Overall good condition; finely carved; tarnishing wear and dirt to the gilt-metal with some losses to the gilding; the ivory Viking-form finial with a loss to the figure's proper left arm, chip to the shield; repaired breaks to the legs at the ankles with infilling and losses; the ivory body appears to have been cleaned and with minor rubbing and wear. Please note this lot contains endangered material which may require a CITES permit to export. Please contact the department with any questions prior to sale.
