Catalogue Note

The present lot is of very high quality typical of the kind of output produced by the best Parisian bronziers. The original dated circa 1780-5 is now in the Wallace collection under the inventory number (F293-4) and was exhibited a Bethnal Green in 1872-5, number (1284). It is very likely that the leading French bronziers of the time came to see this public exhibition, making accurate drawings of the pieces as they had been able to do at an exhibition put on by the Department of Art and Science of the Board of Trade, titled Specimens of Cabinet Work, held at Gore House, London, May to July 1853.
