Description

  • signed and dated J. Cusachs / 1890 lower left
  • oil on canvas
  • 73 by 53.5cm., 28¾ by 21in.

Provenance

Purchased by the present owner in Hamburg circa 1970

Condition

Original canvas. There are scattered spots of retouching visible under ultraviolet light, notably along the extreme edges and to two repairs (patched on the reverse) at the upper right corner. There are a few small areas of fine craquelure, notably to the white pigments on either side of the figure, and there is yellowing of the varnish and scattered surface dirt. This work would improve greatly with a light professional cleaning. Held in a wide, decorative, gold-painted moulded plaster and wood frame.
