Condition

Apart from slight bowing at the corners, the board is in good condition. There are a few spots of retouching visible under ultraviolet light, notably between the two female and the two male figures. Apart from a few scattered lines of minor craquelure, this work is in good condition, with rich colours and a strong surface. Held in a decorative, muted gold-painted moulded plaster and wood frame.

Catalogue Note

Painted in January 1893, the present work was painted during Regoyos' only visit to Valencia, when he accompanied the Belgian artist Eugène Boch, brother of Anna Boch. Anna and Regoyos were fellow members of the Brussels avant-garde exhibiting body Les XX.
