Jos Manders (1932-1978) did not create his first art objects until 1965. He did not start off as a painter or sculptor, like many of his colleagues did, but rather developed his technique using previous experiences in the furniture industry.

In the beginning Manders covered objects such as dented cans with half sheer plastic. Soon he started to focus on a variety of individual objects that he would produce himself, using a technique that is best described as wrapping. He created forms that had a sensual quality, due to the white or blank plastic and often partly see through materials used. The works of art were usually meant to hang on a wall, sometimes to lie on the floor.

Later Manders started to place his art more and more within a certain context; using the space he was given. An example of this is his solo exhibition in the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven (1970) and the second Triënnale of the South of Holland. Here, the artist made use of the halls and corners. In 1967 Manders received the Prix des jeunes artistes, 5. Biennale de Paris.
