Condition

The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.: This painting on panel is clearly in very good condition. There are no cracks to the wood and no instability to the paint layer. The painting has been fairly recently cleaned, varnished and retouched. The varnish is quite shiny and could be softened slightly if required. Under ultraviolet light retouches are visible in the lower right, in a few spots near the figure’s right ankle on the step, in another spot in the dress by her knee on the left side and in what appears to be some areas in the dark open doorway above her handkerchief. However, there are no retouches in the face and the figure generally and while these retouches are reasonably accurate, a reexamination may diminish the amount of retouching which has been applied.
