Acquistato dalla famiglia dell'attuale proprietario direttamente dall'artista nel 1950 circa.

Painting on original canvas. From a first hand inspection the canvas appears loosen; some losses are visible next to the top left hand side corner. The ultra violet light reveals light fluorescent varnish dishomogeneously spread over the surface. The signature was written after the finishing varnish. It is suggested a careful cleansing and retensioning. The overall condition as to the state of preservation is very good.

L'opera qui presentata rientra nella produzione italiana dell'artista. Issupoff giunge a Roma con una "valigia di ricordi" che nel tempo riprendono vita in tele in cui mostra ormai la padronanza tecnica di un artista maturo.

In Bagnanti troviamo verdi prati e fronde in contrasto con uno squarcio di cielo che preannuncia l'arrivo di un temporale. Il colore cupo si riflette nell'acqua del fiume, ma il tocco rosso ed i bianchi delle vesti appoggiate a terra narrano di un pomeriggio rilassato e baciato dal sole.
I toni, in ampio contrasto, e le atmosfere grigie del cielo sono la narrazione di tristezza e malinconia, contenuti profondi e intrisi di grazia e bellezza così come in Paesaggio primaverile, Primavera, Autunno, Paesaggio autunnale, tutti realizzati tra il 1928 ed il 30. Anche qui, come nelle opere citate, ritroviamo una pennellata a piccoli e rapidi tratti di derivazione impressionista, una tecnica che Issupoff sapientemente rielabora e piega con l'intento di rende vibrante e ricca la superficie. In Bagnanti ritroviamo anche un impaginato prospettico per piani sovrapposti incorniciato da alte piante, tipico per l'artista in questi soggetti.

The here shown work falls within the Italian production of the artist. Issupoff comes in Rome with a "suitcase full of memories" that, over the time, regains new life in canvases showing the fluency of a mature artist's technique.

In Bagnanti we find green fields and branches contrasting with a sky patch that forecasts the approaching of a thunderstorm. The dark colour reflects in the river, but the red touch and the white dresses leaning on the grass tell of a relaxed afternoon kissed by the sun. The shades in large contrast and the grey atmospheres of the sky are the narration of the sadness and the melancholy, deep contents soaked with grace and beauty as well as in Paesaggio primaverile, Primavera, Autunno, Paesaggio autunnale, all realized between the 1928 and the 1930. Here, as in the mentioned works, we find a brushstroke of small and rapid impressionistic draws, a technique that wisely Issupoff revises and bends in order to make a vibrant and rich surface. In Bagnanti, for the overlapping levels, we find also a prospective format framed by other trees, typical for the artist with these subjects.
