Description

  • Papyrus
fourteen fragments, including (a) fragment of an astronomical calculation table recording the risings of the sun on different dates of the year from a Greek manuscript similar to those catalogued in A. Jones, Astronomical Papyri from Oxyrhynchus, 1999 (see in particular pl. vi), 93mm. by 35mm., second century AD.; (b) fragment of a dream divination manual in Demotic, 60mm. by 47mm., an account of the dreams with a priestly interpretation, late kingdom c. 600 BC.; (c) small fragment of a Coptic literary text, most probably part of the Coptic New Testament, 25mm. by 30mm., 3 lines in monumental Biblical script, fourth century AD.; plus 11 other papyrus fragments from a number of documents: 6 substantial ones (the smallest of which is 135mm. by 80mm.,) and 4 smaller ones (smallest 45mm. by 50mm.), all second to fourth century AD., recovered from mummy cartonnage and hence with discolouration, small holes and wear, but overall in good and presentable condition
