fifty-six charters, from members of the FitzEllis, Chastillon or closely related families primarily concerning the estates at Thornton, Leckhamstead and Worminghall, including 4 dated in the reign of Edward I (1239-1307), 18 from Edward II (1307-27), 30 from Edward III (1312-77), 1 from Richard II (1377-1400), 3 from Henry IV (1399-1413), and a further two undated charters of the fourteenth century, 22 with attached seals, all with minor stains, folds, small holes and some cockling, else fair and presentable condition
