Catalogue Note

Very rare: we can trace only one complete copy sold at auction in over thirty-five years. Horeau (1801-1872) started his career working as an illustrator before becoming an architect; he combined his work with travelling in Europe, as well as Russia and Egypt. In 1838 whilst in Egypt he painted a large number of watercolours, many of which were engraved for this present work, the originals of which are now in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.
