Folio (432 x 330mm.), 53 fine watercolours over pencil, some heightened with bodycolour, mounted on card, some captioned in pencil, twentieth-century red morocco, gilt border to sides, spine in six compartments with raised bands gilt, extremities slightly rubbed

Catalogue Note

These watercolours, published in Galerie royale de costume peints d'aprés nature par diverse artistes (Paris, 1842-1848), show costume of the Middle East, Europe and the Americas. The artists for the 245 plates in the published work included Louis Eugène Ginain (1818-1886), Éduard Henri Théophile Pingret (1788-1875) and Benjamin Roubaud (1811-1847).
