First German edition, folio (483 x 345mm.), lithographed title within broad pictorial border and 40 plates after Heinrich von Mayr (of 48), the title and 13 plates with fine modern colouring, 1 leaf printed prospectus, 1 leaf 'Vorwort' and 70 numbered pages of text, modern calf-backed boards, one original printed part wrapper bound in (slight variation to title given above), [Blackmer 1101 (French edition, published simultaneously); Hilmy II, p.26 (calling for 36 plates)], lacking 8 plates (no.4, 8, 10, 11, 30, 34, 37, 42), plate 35 slightly cut down, some spotting, a few mainly minor tears repaired
