Catalogue Note
The drawings are mostly of Asia and a manuscript note on one of the pencil sketches, dated 1832, reads "Port of Amoy on the Eastern coast of China from a sketch taken on Mr [Hugh] Lindsay's voyage." The drawings include views of Bombay, Malacca, Madras, Macao and Sumatra and there are also a small number of views in Scotland, including Midmar Castle (Aberdeen), Westhall House, Berwick, Stonehaven and Langholm Lodge. There are also a few sketches by Sir James's sister Mary Frances Dalrymple-Horn-Elphinstone (d.1880).
