Catalogue Note
Three works, noted for their rarity in Don Mitchell's Bibliography of the West Indies, relating to an ambitious British plan to conquer the Spanish empire in South America and to counter the movement for the abolition of the slave trade by supplying "free" workers to take the place of freed slaves in the West Indies. The Caribbean Mosquito Coast (or Miskito Coast) historically consisted of an area along the Atlantic coast of present-day Nicaragua, named after its native Miskito Indians and long dominated by British interests.
