Constantinos Parthenis

This recently re-discovered work is one of three known self-portraits of Parthenis. The other two, one drawing and an oil, are in the collection of the National Gallery and Alexandros Soutzos Museum, Athens.

The present  work is illustrated in a black and white photograph of the artist's wife in his Paris studio circa 1910. It appears from the photograph that the painting was larger in size and reduced along the edges (see Evgenios Matthiopoulos, Constantinos Parthenis, Athens, 2008, p. 46, illustrated).
