A fine group of seven watercolors of Butterflies including two with Flowers. ca. 1790-1820



Watercolor, and ink on English paper (approximately 18 ½ x 14 ¼ in.; 470 x 362 mm); light marginal cockling, a few scattered spots. Floated (two matted), glazed and framed.

Catalogue Note

Indian natural history painting produced for European visitors including employees of the East India Company, began in the late eighteenth century. Stock sets of pictures were soon produced for this burgeoning market, depicting fruit, flowers, birds, and insects.
