Description

Hot Spring of Gardner's River, Yellowstone

Very fine chromolithograph on card (9 5/8 x 14 in.; 245 x 355 mm) after Moran by Louis Prang, Boston 1876, removed from Ferdinand V. Hayden's The Yellowstone National Park, and the Mountain Ranges of Portions of Idaho, Nevada, Colorado, and Utah. Matted, glazed, and framed.

Catalogue Note

A stunning view from Hayden and Moran's Yellowstone Park, "the pinnacle of chromolithography as both a high-quality form of art reproduction and a commercially viable medium" (Marzio, Democratic Art). Moran's views were among the earliest pictorial records of the spectacular landscapes of then then-unexplored Yellowstone region.
