Condition
Overall very good original condition. This piece was originally designed as site specific built in cabinet, and therefore the back and sides are not finished. This piece is intended as a single storage cabinet, yet is in three compartments with original labeling existent. New hardware has been used to put the three compartments together and it appears the back and sides of the central compartment has been replaced. The current configuration is with the back of the three compartments flush, so the fronts of the cabinets are not mounted flush. The proper right and proper left compartments are approximately four inches infront of the central case. It appears from the overlapping details, that the cabinets can be put together so the fronts are flush and the backs would therefore be uneven. It appears that the difference in the depth of the cabinets was made to accommodate the specifics of the original location for which the piece was designed. The front of the cabinets are in very good condition, with some minor surface scratches. There is some lifting and minor splintering to the wood around the new hardware from the prior installation of the piece. The central panel with detailed raised sculptural knots, one of which with some losses to the middle portion of the proper right door. The losses are subtle, but the edge is slightly raw to the touch as the result. It appears that this knot may have been used to open the doors and has broken off. The pieces of wood from the loss have been retained. Some of the original finishing nails used to the hold the cabinets together are visible because of the current difference in depth.
The interior of the central case with replaced wood to the sides, base and back as mentioned above. This wood has been left in its natural color. The other two cases retain their original red painted interiors. The proper right case has divided upper and lower bifold doors to the exterior. The top portion with three adjustable green felt covered shelves. The lower portion of this proper right cabinet is fitted with a retractable shelf with a lazy susan to the top, likely for a television and one green felt adjustable shelf. The central cabinet appears to have retained its originally four adjustable shelves which are covered in the same green felt as the other two cases. The proper left case with three adjustable green felt covered shelves to the top portion and the same arrangement to the lower portion of the case. Each of the interiors with some scratches to the sides from the modification and removal of the shelves. The edges of the doors also with some scratches, abrasion and minute chips for the opening and closing of the doors.
A large scale work with stunning sculpturally rendered doors.
