François Bocion wandte sich am Anfang seiner Karriere der Historienmalerei zu, kam aber unter dem Einfluss des französischen Landschaftsmalers François Bonnet zur Landschafts- und insbesondere zur Marinemalerei wurde der Genfersee zu einem seiner beliebtesten Motive. Durch die Wahl des erhöhten Bildhorizonts eröffnet sich dem Betrachter die Weite des Genfersees in seiner vollen Pracht.
