Condition
Oil on cardboard.
From a first hand inspection a vertical fold parallel to the left hand side edge (cm 12 circa). The support appears warped.
The ultra violet light reveals some retouches over the tree trunk on the left, probably added by the artist.
Over the surface appears fluorescent varnish.
It is suggested a careful cleansing and restoration of the support.
The overall condition as to the state of preservation is good.

Catalogue Note
Di carattere solitario, Bartolena riflette la propria schiva personalità nei suoi paesaggi, dove la presenza umana è marginale. Le figure sono quasi "spiate" ed osservate da lontano, inserite nella distanza, solo abbozzate a testimonianza della vita nel quotidiano.
Torna in questa opera il formato stretto e lungo tipico della tradizione macchiaiola adottato per le vedute. Come in molte sue composizioni la luce sembra piovere da punti indistinti. Non si preoccupa di dover tagliare parte dei rami degli alberi: l'importante è che ciò non vada a discapito dell'equilibrio della composizione, giocata sulle diagonali della strada e del paesaggio, oltre che sulle ombre degli alberi in primo piano.
