Description

  • the reverse applied with a silver plaque inscribed in Cyrillic "This icon is presented on the first saint's day of His Imperial Highness, the Heir Tsarevich and Grand Duke Alexei Nicholaevich, and to commemorate the blessed raising on this day of a church named for St. Alexei, Metropolitan of Moscow, in the Andreev Hermitage on Mount Athos, October 5th, 1904, St. Petersburg. Painted and blessed on the holy Mount Athos." The icon signed at lower right front, the silver border, Moscow, circa 1900 with unclear Cyrillic maker's mark, apparently A.M.A.
