Literature

The Yusupov Manufactory, a small porcelain atelier run on the estate of the renowned collector and aesthete Prince Nikolai Borisovich Yusupov, is perhaps best known for the series of plates of which the offered lot is one.  The center of each plate was decorated with one of the varieties of roses taken from Pierre-Joseph Redouté's three-volume Les Roses, published in Paris between 1817 and 1824. The inscription on the reverse identifies the volume and page number of each rose. On the series, see An Imperial Fascination, Porcelain, New York, 1991, pp. 144-145.
