Condition

Oil on lined canvas. The surface is slightly dirty and covered with a layer of slightly yellowed varnish. The painting is in overall fine condition. Restoration is visible in the upper half of the canvas, particularly to the left of Peter's head. There is a 1 1/2 inch scratch to the left of Peter's hand. There is minor paint loss around edges and a small 2 inch scratch in the lower right corner. In Peter's face there is some paint loss (appears to have been overcleaned perhaps). Under UV pigments fluoresce but the varnish prevents a conclusive analysis. Held in a gold painted wood frame with plaster molding. Unexamined out of frame.
