Condition

Oil on canvas. The surface is dirty and covered with a layer of yellowed varnish. There is craquelure, particularly to the left side of the painting through the tree and ocean. The paint layer is thin in this area, as well as to parts of the ocean, sky, and horizon. There is very nice impasto work in the sea. There is a very minor stain near the bottom of the tree and there is minor paint loss in the lower right corner. The picture could benefit from restoration and paint stabilization. Under UV pigments fluoresce in the sky and sea but varnish prevents a conclusive analysis. Held in a wood frame with plaster molding. Unexamined out of frame.
