Condition
Oil on canvas. The surface is dirty and covered with a layer of slightly yellowed varnish. There is a spot of paint loss in the lower right corner, about 1/2 inch long, and there is another 1/2 inch long spot of paint loss in the right shoulder of woman. On the right side of the canvas, a stretcher mark runs down the length of the picture and there is also a stretcher mark running across the center of the painting. There is paint loss in the face area (chin, nose) and minor craquelure in the face and hair. Under UV pigments fluoresce in the face, hair and around the portrait. Varnish prevents a conclusive analysis. Held in a gold painted wood frame with plaster molding. Unexamined out of frame.
