Condition

This painting seems to be in lovely condition. It is stretched on its originals stretcher. The paint layer is clean. There are slight cracks in some of the heaviest areas of paint but these do not seem to indicate any instability. The drips and prominent points of pigment all seem to be in healthy condition, although some dirt has accumulated on the upward facing ledges of a few of the heaviest applications of paint. Overall however, the picture should be hung as is. The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.

Catalogue Note

Lanskoy is considered one of the pioneers of Tachism, a revolutionary movement that flourished in France in the 1940s and 50s. He combined bold, improvised brushstrokes with a vivid, buoyant palette to create his dynamic compositions.
