Oil on lined canvas. The surface is dirty and covered with a layer of slightly yellowed varnish. The painting is in rough condition. There is a 4 1/2 inch scratch in the upper left corner and abrasions to the paint surface. A 6 inch repair to the canvas is visible in the mid-left area of the canvas, to the left of Catherine's face. A 8 inch repair to the canvas is visible to the upper right area of Catherine's head. There is minor craquelure and there is minor paint loss around the edges of the canvas. There is a 2 inch scratch to the lower left corner and a 3 1/2 inch scratch below the finger of Catherine. Under UV pigments fluoresce, however the varnish prevents noting exactly where restoration has been completed. Painting has been overcleaned and is most likely in need of further restoration. Held in a gold painted wood frame. Unexamined out of frame.
