Structural Condition The canvas is lined and there is one small patch visible on the reverse of the lining canvas. This is ensuring a stable structural support. Paint surface The paint surface has a rather uneven varnish layer and revarnishing would be beneficial to ensure a more even surface coating. Inspection under ultra-violet light shows only small retouchings, the most significant of which are: 1) a thin diagonal line on the neckline of the woman dancing in the upper left of the composition. This is approximately 1 cm in length. 2) 2 small areas on the same woman's dress, each approximately 1 cm in diameter. 3) Thin vertical lines on the seated man in the lower left of the composition, an area measuring approximately 1 x 1.5 cm beside his back and scattered retouchings in the lower left of the foreground. It should be stressed that these are all small retouchings. Summary The painting would therefore appear to be in good and stable condition and would benefit from revarnishing.
