Catalogue Note

On smooth wove paper, with full margins

This print was executed by Picasso just after he completed Portrait de Jeune Fille, D'Apres Cranach Le Jeune, II (see previous lot), his first linoleum block print.  These early efforts with linoleum cut utulized different blocks for each color and would eventually give way to the artist's own "reduction linoleum cut" technique which involved only one block.  The present lot is a superb example of the artist's tendency to take an experimental approach in printmaking.
