Certain characteristics of this print suggest it may have been a working proof before the published edition. The image is clearly off-register and in unprinted areas where the plates have not matched up exactly, touches of hand-coloring are visible. There are also two small, possibly excised areas (to the left of the right leg of the figure at far left, and to the right of the right leg of the figure at far right), which appear to be intentional, suggesting ongoing experimentation on the part of the printmaker and artist. This may further explain the apparently faded nature of the pink, which could be attributable to the use of different inks before the final image was achieved.
