Condition
In generally good condition. The binding lost, the pages loose in the portfolios. Each page with some creasing and holes resulting from the binding. The title page with some minor foxing.

Catalogue Note
The title page with watercolor and crayon hand-coloring, inscribed 'Pour M. Sihishi Kashima en bon souvenir Marc Chagall 1979. St. Paul de Vence', dated and signed in ink by the artist.
The prints on wove paper and Japan, published by Tériade, etchings printed by Louis Fort, Paris, text by Nicolas Gogol, text printed by by Impremerie Nationale de Paris, the two volumes contained in the original gilded, maroon marocco leather binding, sleeves, and with paper and maroon marocco leather cases, the title page in a cardboard cover.
An inserted slip reads 'Cet exemplaire a été exposé au musée des arts décoratifs dand la vitrine qui a obtenu le Grand-Prix de la Reliure Française, Pavillon de Marson, Paris 20 décembre 1950'
