Description
- Louise Bourgeois
- He Disappeared Into Complete Silence (Wye 29-38)
- 9 engravings
- each sheet 252 by 179 mm 10 by 7 in
The very rare complete set of nine engravings, each signed and annotated with the plate number, hors-texte, accompanied by the title page, an introduction by Marius Bewly and a justification signed by the artist and the author, this copy unnumbered (the proposed edition was 44), contained in the original linen-covered portfolio
Provenance
Peridot Gallery, New York
By descent to the current owner
The Peridot Gallery, New York, was the first to exhibit the artist's sculptures in 1949. Presumably the present lot was acquired on the occasion of this show, making it one of only a few examples assembled and issued at that time.
Condition
These are very rich impressions and they are in good condition. The paper tone in the margins has darkened slightly over time and spots of oxidation are visible on the verso of two sheets. There are a few spots of inconspicuous stray ink and surface soiling and occasional off-printing occurred on the reverse of the text pages.
There is a pencil correction to the text accompanying Plate 7: the first word in the last line of the parable has a line through the N and a Y written in above, changing 'Then' to 'They'.
