Condition

STRUCTURE The canvas has been lined. PAINT SURFACE The painting appears to be in fairly good condition. There are a number of scattered paint losses, predominantly in an area of localised flaking in the upper let and to a diagonal scratch, in the lower right, measuring approximately two inches in length. There are a number of scattered, visible retouchings to previous area of paint loss and cracking. These retouchings are largely crudely done and, in some cases, unnecessary. ULTRAVIOLET Examination under ultraviolet light reveals scattered flecks of dirt and a slightly discoloured varnish overall. There is no further retouching other than that mentioned above FRAME Held in an eighteenth century oak frame.
